Andrea Higgins has been with Arpix since 2001. She is currently music supervising several projects, including; Heartland (CBC), The Dating Guy (Teletoon), and Durham County (TMN). Recent projects include Life with Derek (Disney), MVP (CBC), and ReGenesis (TMN).
Andrea’s work was recently recognized at the 2008 Gemini Awards, where she won a Gemini Award as part of the sound team on Durham County. She was also selected one of 1000 "Creative and Inspiring Women of Toronto," as part of the Toronto Luminato Festival "Mille Femmes" photo exhibition by Pierre Maraval.
Driving the music creative via song selection and licensing, negotiating rights and fees for everything from top 10 hits to indie basement recordings, it’s clear where her heart lies; “I live and breathe indie music. I love going to shows, devouring MySpace & various blogs, digging under rocks for new music of all genres. I love placing indie music to picture because of the golden opportunity it brings to introduce a great unknown band to the world.”
In addition to working closely with artists and record labels, Andrea also consults with composers to help shape the overall musical direction of productions.
As a musician – playing guitar, bass, and a little piano – she is known mostly for her drummer self, having been voted “Best Drummer of 2007” by Now Magazine. She played her indie band Shitt Hottt’s final show in September 2008 at a packed Horseshoe Tavern. Currently dabbling with the fiddle, she would love to get her hands on a banjitar.
In her downtime, Andrea models for Pretty Raccoon Clothing and recently DJ’d and choreographed the runway shows for Jean-Paul Gaultier and Versace at Toronto fashion week.
Here’s some video footage from the very first Shitt Hott show. Check it.
