Too Much Music

There is too much music available. Too much noise. Too many songs that sound like other songs. It's inevitable. I mean, there are only so many ways to play western chords and the melodies that work with those chords. No wonder hip-hop sounded fresh. It was. Of course, now its a joke, just more noise with a limited musical vocabulary, much like country became years ago...as in, it either is or is not hip hop or country or rock or new age or whatever.

In any event, we receive too much music. It's true. We have access to a ton of great tunage, and if its punk rock or some other very popular style, we have enough. really, we don't need anymore. The artform is not advancing.

How I pine for something really different. So, I find myself listening to music of other cultures, because at least it sounds new to my ears. So much of what we hear today is such a bad imitation of what was once great. Bummer, cuz I'm starving for good.

Oh, I know there's some cool stuff out there to hear, like a handful of 20 something Talking Heads clones, but then why don't i just listen to Talking Heads records if thats what I want to hear? And that's what most stuff actually sounds like...something I've already heard.

XM Sirius

Does anyone actually listen to radio anymore. didn't radio sort of kill itself off slowly in the 90's? ok, so you listen in your car, but other than that? radio killed itself as surely as the record business has killed itself, only faster.

So, now XM and Sirius are going to merge. the one - uh two - chances for people to use radio as it is supposed to be used - for discovery purposes - is now going to pull a mainstream and merge itself into oblivion. five years and its all over. 2012.

Only a few people i know even have either service, and they don't seem enthused to begin with. But they're about to get 100 Jack FM's on the dial and that'll be it.

Where o where is this entertainment business thing going????? downdowndown....
